I was looking at some articles about famous people, when I came across a strange character. Her name was Malibu Barbie. Pressing onto the icon, I realised that she was just 2 years old, and her legal name was Malibu Barbie, not just a stage name. I was interested in seeing whether this type of name was uncommon and never really happened, like I thought it would be, so I did a bit of research and found a website showing a huge list of crazy names - how has this trend of unusual names come about?
Here is that list:
· Blue Ivy
· Pilot Inspektor
· Dycurgus
· Arcadia
· Strider
· Rhoshandiatellyneshiaunneveshenk
· Bandit
· Exa Dark Siderael
· Portabella
· Fifa
· Maybelline
· Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii
· Spicy
· KVlllIyn
· Mini Muka
· Fifi Trixibelle
· Tu Morrow
· Reign Beau
· Version 2.0
· Robocop
· ABCDE
· Hashtag
· Moxie Crimefighter
I looked at the list and couldn’t believe my eyes. A huge amount of people, over half being celebrities, had decided to name their children these appalling names. How does anyone think that that is okay?
Personally, I think there should be a limit on the names that you can call your child, but in some countries, there already is! For example, in Iceland, there is a specific list of names that you can call your child, but you can also gain permission from the government to name your child something different. And in some countries, you can’t name your child anything like Jesus, King or Messiah. So, with all this in mind, should America and the UK take a firmer grip on the naming of children, and not leave it as it is where there is only a few names that you can’t call your child, so you can get away with naming a baby Malibu Barbie?
