This is a sad story about a horse who was worth a staggering £2 million.

The story of Shergar the horse is still a mystery… as his body was never found!

When Shergar was stolen he was only 5 years old. However, he had also won 6 competitions including: the 1981 Epsom Derby (by a record 10 lengths), the Irish Sweeps Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Guardian Classic Trial, and the Chester Vase.

Shergar was born in 1978 in Ireland and was owned by Aga Khan IV and a lot of other investors. A thoroughbred, Shergar’s dad was Great Nephew who won one of the most prestigious races in British horse racing the Epsom Derby and his mother was called Sharmara, she won the Prix de Minerve in France 1966.
