As the Year 8s are going to the Warner Bros Studio Tour on 2nd March 2026, I thought I’d have a look into the popularity of Harry Potter and why everyone is so excited to go to the ‘Harry Potter World’.

I decided to take a look at some popular characters and the way they are portrayed in the books and movies to steal the hearts of the readers and watchers:

Draco Malfoy

Known as one of the most ‘attractive’ characters in Harry Potter, Draco is a snobby Slytherin who poorly treated his house elf, Dobby, until he was freed. Malfoy also shared a complex relationship with Snape and Voldermort during the Half Blood Prince as he attempted to fulfil Voldermort’s wishes to kill his wise headmaster, Dumbledore. Malfoy was also an avid Quidditch player, who used his money and riches to pay for a spot on the Quidditch team and a top-of-the-range broom.

Dobby the House Elf

Dobby is introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, when he appears in Harry’s bedroom giving him a warning that He Who Must Not Be Named (Voldermort) has a plot to take over Hogwarts. Dobby is an affectionate creature who sacrifices his life to save ‘Harry Potter, Sir!’ and his other companions. Dobby is loved due to his noble and caring character, which can also come across as a bit foolish and cheeky!

Severus Snape

A choice that shocked me, as I thought that people didn’t like Snape. After researching, I have seen that people adore his secret admirability and love of Harry's mother and his complex relationship with Harry throughout the story. Snape is a secret role model and will, after his death, be a namesake for one of Harry’s Potter’s children (Albus Severus Potter).

Hermione Granger

Hermione is an intelligent witch, who helped Harry out of a lot of tight situations. She is a role model, especially to girls, to show you can do anything you want to do. Her relationship with Ron also sparked fan discussions and controversy as many thought it would end with Hermione and Harry married. I have seen a lot of merchandise that says, ‘Without Hermione, Harry would have died in the first book!’

Ron Weasley

Ron is a humorous and fun character. His famous catch phrase “Bloody ‘Ell” is a popular phrase for merchandise and fans to say, and his silliness, but loyalty is ferocious yet kind. His relationship wit Hermione is loved and he is one of them kind comedy characters.

And finally...

Harry Potter

The protagonist of the story, Harry is not only brave and loyal, but a fighter, who will think tactically before he jumps. Harry’s connection with Ginny Weasley is beautiful and his tight-knit friendships are so fun to watch developing and sticking together. Harry also shares a complex relationship with both Dumbledore and Lord Voldermort, which is portrayed beautfiully throughout the books and movies. He is one of those characters you’ve just got to love as he is the bones of the story. I mean, it is litterally called Harry Potter!

After researching this, I can now see why people love Harry Potter so much. I mean how couldn’t you?
